What does Translink have to say about that Approved StreetCar line?
I wonder what "the people" think of the idea for the StreetCar?
Politics aside, my 2 cents suggest that certain distinguishing elements give a city character, create a sense of pride, and offer diversions and recreation that not only benefit those who live, but those who visit a city. I think a well-planned vehicle like this could enhance some local transit accessibility, and increase local tourist revenues, good for our communities, and local businesses.
I also would like to add, that Translink has the out-dated idea that Transit is planning for Transportation Systems. It is not. Transit is planning for Pedestrian Systems.
Transit and Municipal must work in coordinated and progressive ways if we are to reduce vehicular traffic and replace it with more efficient Transit. As long as the private vehicle remains more viable and cost effective (time plus dollars) Transit will lose out.
Adjust the Transit Planning to increase service standards and incorporate "green" measures that seem counter-intuitive.
Congest vehicular traffic by dedicating bus-only lanes, strictly enforced. Create bus-only corridors (see City of Ottawa). Develop more efficient network and hub systems, not the long-snake that winds all over through 4 municipalities. Systems have long-ago replaced milk-runs, so why does transit still have them?
This would never work in Chicago.
